Mr. Ruhnke currently serves as the Director of Bands at Lakes International Language Academy Headwaters Campus in Forest Lake, MN. Mr. Ruhnke played in his High School Marching/Concert Band at Washburn High, in South Minneapolis. He studied Trombone with Ron Ricketts of the Minnesota Orchestra. He also played in his College Marching Band in Iowa. He built the Band program at Carondelet School in South Minneapolis, where he served for many years. He also built (from scratch), the Jazz Band program at Math & Science Academy Charter School in Woodbury. They were "Contest Ready" in their 2nd year. Most recently, he Directed the Marching Band and served as Band Director at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul.
Mr. Ruhnke is an active member of the Minnesota Band Director's Association (M.B.D.A.). He plays Trombone with the Minnesota Symphonic Winds (Conducted by Dr. Tim Mahr). He plays Trombone with several Jazz Ensembles, including the Brooklyn Big Band (Directed by Dave Mantini). He has also been active with a Brass Quintet (The Matterhorn Brass), since 1991. He resides in Hudson, with his Wife, Shirley.
At LILA Headwaters, Mr. Ruhnke conducts the High School Concert Band, the Pep Band, two Middle School Bands, three Beginning Bands, and teaches daily lessons. He also Directs the Jazz Band.
He is looking forward to taking them on another Band Trip in Spring of 2027

I am looking forward to working with the Concert Band, Marching Band, building the Jazz Band and having them perform out in the Community. I am Really hoping to be able to bring these fine students on a Band & Orchestra Trip to Nashville or some other Great location. The students and staff here are first rate! I would Love to show them off!"
