LILA Band Lettering Criteria 2020-2021

I am in the process of rewriting the Lettering in Band Criteria for LILA Headwaters. Because of the Pandemic, many outside opportunities to earn a Letter in Band simply don't exist this year. In addition, the old Outline is quite confusing. For the current school year, I will adopt a Lettering Criteria that is most similar to other High Schools in the Twin Cities Metro area. Lettering will be available to students in Grades 9-12.

GRADES: "A" grade equivalent for all 4 Quarters (or 6-7) on the LILA

point system.

PERFORMANCES: It is expected that students will attend all required events.

Scheduling conflicts will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Work is not acceptable for an excused absence.

In the case of Covid-19 and Distance Learning, students who are not able

able to perform with the group, will watch from home, fully participate

on-line, and submit an alternate Summative recording of their progress.

ADDITIONAL: It is encouraged that students participate in some type of

outside musical activity or performance. All-State, Honor Band

Jazz Band, Marching Band, DP Music, or a Recital would be

recommended. This year, those opportunities are limited

or restricted. Therefore, they are not required. They are

encouraged and may become requirements in the future.

DP MUSIC: This option is available to Juniors and Seniors. It is not a

requirement for Lettering, but successful participation in the

program is encouraged and will help solidify the qualification

for a Letter.

CONTEST: Superior or Excellent rating at Solo/Ensemble Contest.
